Offline maps

One of the best features about Apple iPhone is Google online maps with A-GPS supports. It uses GPS, wifi and cell tower locations technology to identify your current location. Without single one of the technology, Google online maps are not functional; the maps could not be loaded. iPhone users who are not subscribe to mobile data plan from their local network carrier, Offline maps are maybe their alternative. Offline maps could be viewed without the Internet access. But, it could not find your location since A-GPS supports need three of the technology mentioned above. Offline maps are 3rd party application that can only be installed on jailbroken iPhone from Cydia installer. Following is the installation steps of Offline maps.

1. Launch Cydia installer, use the search function to find and install Offline Maps and openSSH.

2. Extract downloaded offline maps and bookmarks (optional) to desktop. The are files are MapTiles.sqlitedb, com.apple.Maps.plist and Bookmarks,plist (optional).

3. SSH into iPhone using winSCP or Fugu, copy MapTiles.sqlitedb and com.apple.Maps.plist to /var/mobile/Media/Maps/Singapore/ iPhone directory and Bookmarks.plist to /var/mobile/Library/Maps/ iPhone directory (optional).

4. Reboot iPhone and launch Offline maps. Tap “Copy” button and wait for about 10-15 minutes depends on the size of the map.

5. Tap “Maps” button and it will launch Google Maps and close Offline maps.

6. Repeat step 3-6 to upload another maps.
